The Cornmarket and St. Mary’s Church
Wigton, Cumbria - England, UK
|
| Corn was sold in this area of Wigton, outside the church; the initials in the cobbles are for barley oats and wheat. The Medieval church was replaced in 1788. Part of the east window carvings from the porch and a re-used Roman column can still be seen in the churchyard. The present church is classically Georgian in style and is well worth a visit. |
