Finsthwaite, Near Newby Bridge, Cumbria LA12 - England, UK
|
| High Dam can be easily reached along a well-marked footpath from the National Trust car park that lies below. It is a beautiful tarn and you can walk around it at your leisure. It can also be enjoyed as part of a 5-mile circular walk from Newby Bridge and is covered by Wainwright’s ’The Outlying Fells of Lakeland’ book (page 74). This dammed tarn used to provide the water power for bobbin-making at nearby Stott Park Bobbin Mill. It is up to 33ft deep and situated at an elevation of 547ft. |
