Brathay Lodge is a traditional English Lake District property which was originally built as two semi detached properties around 1890 probably to satisfy the demand for hotels, guesthouse and lodging accommodation by the Lake District tourist industry which was then in its infancy. The property has been totally refurbished in a contemporary style which is fairly unique to the area. The brief to the interior design team was to create an informal atmosphere conducive to unwinding with high class accommodation to a quality hotel standard.

We, like most guests, believe that this is what has been created - a very different bed and breakfast, an extremely pleasant warm and friendly place where you can enjoy banter with the family and staff or have peace and quiet - whatever you require.

Situated in central Ambleside, Cumbria, Brathay Lodge is within a few minutes walk of 30+ restaurants/eateries and 10+ pubs/bars. There are also numerous gourmet restaurants and inns within a short drive - something for all tastes and all budgets. For that reason we have decided to specialise in deluxe high class accommodation on a B&B basis only. Most of our guests visiting Ambleside on a short break or as part of an even longer Lake District vacation tend to leave their cars on our large private car park for the duration of their stay, preferring to take advantage of our proximity and enjoy the many local walks during the day and the restaurants and bars of the evening. Walkers / mountain bikers, both casual and serious, like Brathay Lodge's informality and enjoy the facilities on offer and if it's wet or muddy, there is always a place in our boiler room to dry out those wet clothes and footwear overnight.
